Company’s CMPUs to Support Orbital’s Cygnus™ Spacecraft Cargo Logistics Missions to International Space Station
Spaceflight Industries (Spaceflight) today announced today that they’ve received orders from Orbital Sciences Corporation (NYSE: ORB) for four additional Cargo Module Power Units (CMPUs) to supply power to payloads aboard Orbital’s Cygnus cargo logistics spacecraft.
The CMPUs provide up to 150 Watts of 28VDC payload power to mid-deck locker payloads destined for the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the Cygnus cargo vehicle. These units will be used on Orbital’s first operational cargo resupply mission scheduled for later this year. Under the $1.9 billion Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) contract with NASA, Orbital will fly eight cargo resupply missions between 2013 and 2016, delivering 20,000 kilograms of cargo to the ISS.
“We are honored to receive Orbital’s’ repeat business and to help support this critical NASA mission,” said Melissa Wuerl, Director of Programs and Business Development for Spaceflight Industries. “We successfully delivered four flight CMPUs to Orbital in 2011 and their order for four more flight units is significant validation of the affordability and manufacturing quality of our products.”
