Spaceflight’s 48th launch, Transporter-4, lifted off from Cape Canaveral April 1, 2022 on a SpaceX Falcon 9. Transporter-4 successfully launched Spaceflight customer Kleos Space’s Patrol Mission cluster of four satellites. Spaceflight partnered with D-Orbit to deploy the Kleos’ satellites on this mission.
The four Patrol Mission satellites from Kleos Space add to their constellation to collect radio frequency Earth Observation data. The four satellites, flying in formation, will complement and enhance the global coverage of the previously deployed Scouting and Polar Vigilance missions. The increase in data collection capability will enhance global coverage, improving efforts to bolster border protection and national defense, curb illegal activity, and save human lives.
Specifically, the four satellites will:
- Augment the capabilities of the company’s eight satellites constellation, increasing the average daily revisit rate to around five times a day the average daily revisit rate over a 15-degree latitude area of interest, while expanding Kleos’ data collection capability by up to an additional 119 million kilometers² per day.
- The resulting twelve-satellite constellation will be able to detect and geolocate radio frequency transmissions to within 300 meters, improving the intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities of governments and commercial entities to expose illegal activity on land and sea.
